DenWatch: E.Vil Concept Shop Goes High Art

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Den, the little rotating-concept shop at 330 East 11th Street, has switched gears once again. Last month it was an outlet; before that, it was the first-ever Shipley & Halmos store. And now, it's gone in a completely different direction, hosting a show by Artbooks, a company that stages exhibits of old and rare books about art. On display until January, among other things: Andy Warhol's Polaroid albums, a catalog from a massive Dada exhibit, and rare Gerhard Richter posters. Previous Artbooks shows have taken place at P.S.1 and Art Basel Miami, so this is an unexpected move on their part as well.
