Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

A special Racked correspondent just reported back from The News sale at 495 Broadway. It's got good stock, and it's not crowded, but the price range is so wide that it's almost confusing. Cheap Monday jeans for men and women are going for between $10 and $30 (jackets for $40)—but Common Projects shoes are $200. Clu dresses are $30, blouses $20, and tanks and tees are $10—but men's Woolrich coats are $300 and their flannel shirts are $98. In other words, you could buy three or four items and spend $700, but you could get the same number of things for under $100 if you choose wisely.
