'A big party is a bit extraneous' said Tory Burch, explaining in a note to editors why she decided to open her newest NYC boutique at 38-40 Little West 12th Street yesterday with no fanfare whatsoever. 'I’m sure there’s some marketing we missed out on. But that’s the right decision right now in this environment.'
Tory, the socialite-turned-designer, pinching pennies? Perhaps, though she states in interviews with both WWD and WSJ that her plans to open five more stores next year haven't changed. The 1,600-square-foot MePa boutique, which she describes as 'sleecker' than her Elizabeth Street shop, houses the full range of Tory designs, including her signature flats.
