DUMBO—Are Dumbo residents no longer in need of starter furniture? A reader sends word that the nabe's West Elm store may be shuttering: "I live in Dumbo and there is a huge rumor that the West Elm is closing. The sign out front says 'Design Sale' but inside today (sunday) everything in sight was being sold. The line was huge, the store had the definite feel of closing- furniture, pillows- literally everything in sight was getting unloaded. Will try to send photo tomorrow. A neighbor was told they are 'remodeling' which I don't really believe." If you know more, fill us in. Thanks. UPDATE: They're not going anywhere. [RackedWire Inbox]
NEW YORK CITY/JERZ—More furniture store closures: Levitz Furniture Store (of the catchy commercial jingle: You'll Love it at Levitz) is biting the dust. A source writes: "Not the most exciting news but the Levitz Furniture Store, which has filed for ch 11 three times in 10 yrs, is finally going out of business and is undergoing a going out of business sale. Store is due to close the end of February and Raymour & Flanigan Furniture is taking over that spot located in the Con Edison Bldg. Look for a Spring time opening. Raymour & Flanigan will be keeping their first Manhattan location at 43 west 23rd street. They are also taking over the Levitz location on 125th st in Harlem too, among others in Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island, and New Jersey." [RackedWire Inbox]
EAST VILLAGE—And now, an answer to a question we had never asked: "Did you know that JCPenney has a catalog store at 241 E 10th St. in Manhattan? Customers can have their catalog orders sent here for pick-up, return items, and pay their JCP bills here.We often have "free shipping" offers available. Prices are national prices, not marked up for NY costs, making for many great buys.Questions? call us at 212-533-1088. Thanks, Harry(co-owner)(we are a licensee)" Okay. Ah, good to know?
