UPPER WEST SIDE—There's another Starbucks brewing on Broadway. Writes a tipster: "Starbucks is opening on Broadway between 87th and 88th, in the Montana building next to Aix Restaurant, in a space formerly leased by Zan clothing store. This Starbucks replaces the city's first Starbucks, which opened in the 80s at 2373 Broadway (at 87th Street), but closed about two years ago to be replaced by a North Fork Bank. The Starbucks green awnings went up over the weekend." Another informant adds, "Love this??a few years ago, our friends at starbucks shuttered the location at the sw corner of 87th/Broadway. If I recall, it was one of the 1st ones in Manhattan and stayed the life of the 10 year lease. They didn’t renew claiming the nearby uws locations would work just fine to handle the traffic. I guess not so much. I noticed the new awning right across the street on the east side of broadway between 87th/88th for a brand spanking new location. Well, at least it’s not a bank or a europan?"
