Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Gourmet marketplace, fine prepared-foods shop and neighborhood anchor Agata & Valentina at 1505 First Avenue and 79th Street is kaput. A tipster writes, "Agata and Valentina closed. They had a meeting with their staff and said that service was ending starting now." We're not sure what killed the store (we're awaiting response from their PR team), but regardless of cause, this is a massive blow to Upper East Side gastronomes, who will have to forage elsewhere for rare cheeses and fresh pasta. The store's website is still up, but the phone just rings, and rings...
UPDATE: Agata & Valentina the restaurant has closed. The food shop remains open. Apologies.
