Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Far from Fashion Week, where the FDR Drive and 116th Street shake hands, we see the rising parking infrastructure for the East River Plaza, as seen in the above photo from neighborhood blog Harlem Fur. If this project isn't yet on your radar, let's get you up to speed. Per the official site, the mall covers 485,000 square feet of a formerly underdeveloped East Harlem stretch, with 1,248 attached parking spaces. More critically for shoppers, the mall will host Target's first (permanent) Manhattan location. Other retailers slated for the mall include Home Depot and Best Buy. (Anyone got a list of other retailers joining the fun?) Ground broke last summer for completion and opening next summer; brace, as they say.
