Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
This morning we have word via the red-hot tipline that the Astor Place Barnes & Noble will be reincarnated as the newest branch of David Barton Gym. Back in April we broke the news that the bookseller was not renewing the lease. After an exhaustive comp analysis, we speculated that it might become a bank or a gym, and are pleased (and yet also disappointed) to report that results are in line with those expectations. Know of anything else about to be gym-ified? We're all ears.
