Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
The grand space you see before you is the Meatpacking District Apple store, slated to open "by end of year." This image, taken yesterday of the ground floor on the eastern side of the store, clearly shows there is still much work to be done. Note the mezzanine area and high ceiling, both reminiscent of the Soho location. We really hope that they'll keep those old windows.
Here we have the ground floor on the western side of the store, where the ceilings are much lower. Maybe this area will be storage space?
Just for fun: a rendering of the store released by a developer way back in 2005.
