"The Bowery is what the Meatpacking District was three years ago...With the opening of new retail tenants in [nearby] Avalon Bay, the level of luxury is getting very high. Within the next six month to year, the neighborhood will look more like [the West Village.] Within two years you'll see that almost all the retail businesses there will have changed." So boasts broker Jonathan Krieger of RFK in an amNY piece about the still-empty storefront that had housed CBGB. According to the article, the space will most likely become an art gallery or some sort of boutique. Ah yes, the future of the Bowery—isn't it bright?
UPDATE: Via our friends over at Eater, we hear that CBGB founder Hilly Kristal died yesterday of lung cancer. Too sad.
