Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Above: Half-way down 17th Street, looking west, longingly towards the warehouse entrance. Below: reverse angle.
"We are in!" is the official status of the Barney's Warehouse Sale, just 22 minutes old at 255 West 17th Street. Say what you will about your average sample sale or capsule collection launch, but in the end no one draws a bargain-hunting crowd like Barneys. 70% off retail is the promise, in addition to elbows to the rib cage and -- attention Gents! -- the occasional cat fight. Above, the scene on 18th Street this morning, ten minutes before the sale started. We're on location for you today, shopping reporting, and so there shall be much more to come.
