Retail Shakeup On Rivington Street

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

While taking a brief stroll down Rivington Street on the Lower East Side yesterday, we noticed that vintage boutique Honeymoon, located at 137 Rivington Street, had kicked the bucket. It's not too surprising, since the place kept odd hours and never really seemed to catch on with downtown shoppers who'd traipse right by it on their way to Narnia or Edith Machinist. The store will be replaced by an establishment (a shop? a gallery?) called Le Sous-Sol.

Further east on Rivington Street, boutique Lola y Maria was also closed. It appeared as if the place was just getting a bit of a face-lift, but as no one was answering the phone today at the store, we're still unsure of its status. File this one under "possibly at risk."
