Above the Fray: Ludivine

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Some sales are terrific, while others are a complete waste of time. That's why we bring you reports from the frontlines of sales across the city. And now, a briefing on the discounts at Ludivine in the West Village.

Athough Ludivine isn't having an advertised sale, they've marked down a ton of stock to clear out their racks for soon-to-come fall offerings. A dedicated shopper stopped by the boutique to suss out the deals:

I went to Ludivine earlier today...and wish I could be writing a more enthusiastic review of the sale...
Nearly everything in the store was on sale - Ludivine carries a ton of beautiful blouses and dresses from designers like Tsumori Chisato, See by Chloe, and Vanessa Bruno. The boutique itself is not large, but feels airy and very French: an entire rack is dedicated to white and cream-colored pieces, and Phoenix was playing in the background.

The prices, though, were still pretty high: Vanessa Bruno blouses in the $200-300 range, See by Chloe dresses in the $350-450 range. If you're a woman who can get excited about laying down $1,000 for four tops, this sale is for you! I walked out empty handed, though, uncomfortably reminded that there are clothes that I still can't afford at 50% off.

Whether after reading this you consider a trip to Ludivine worth your time really depends on your financial standing. Based upon ours, we'll skip this sale.
