Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
NATIONAL—In addition to hanging banners on the outside of Eckerd stores, Rite Aid is announcing its takeover of the pharmacy chain by printing "Eckerd is becoming Rite Aid" on the bottom of all Eckerd receipts (the phrase is pictured in this hard-to-make-out picture emailed to us by a tipster). Soon, all traces of Eckerd will be washed clean, and we can all rejoice in the renaming! [Racked Inbox]
WEST VILLAGE—Another tip pulled straight from the delicate prose of our ever-vigilant commenters, this time regarding the news of Avalon Salon and Day spa's relocation plans: "Avalon is moving, but sadly Robert Kree on Bleecker between Charles and Perry is actually closing. The last of the really charming neighborhood-y places on that whole row...Tommy Hilfiger bought out their lease at triple what they are paying. Word on the street is that the other designers view this as an insult to the fine fashion ghetto they've created. TH is SOOOOOOO not in the same league as Ralph Lauren et al., apparently." Ah, is it surprising that none of the swanky retailers in the Village have love for Tommy's gear? [Curbed]
