WEST VILLAGE—Bad news for West Village residents: the "Cheers of day spas" (per Citysearch) is moving from it's current location at 271 W 4th St to Christopher Street. From an up-in-arms tipster: "Was surprised on the way home from work the other day to see the Avalon Salon and Spa on W. 4th b/t Perry and W. 11th, closed. Signs in the window say they are moving to a new location on Christopher St. Here we go again, the West Village loses yet another nabe-defining business to what I can only assume are higher rents. The best thing about the place was the chill vibe that accompanied a great haircut. The stylists always greeted you outside for your appointment, which was a nice touch. Sorry to say it, but I and most West Village residents avoid Christopher Street like it's the plague, so I guess it's time to find a new stylist. That should be fun... " [RackedWire Inbox]
