Steve Madden Readying To Open On Rivington Street

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

This could be a Lower East Side shopping blog, given the wealth of retail news we're getting from the hood. Hot on the heels of the rumored H&M store, we've got another item sure to raise locals' blood pressure. Across the street from 'inoteca and the currently-plywooded Spitzer's Corner sits the former 154 Attorney Street sales office. As you can see from the papered-up windows, some serious reno work is going on inside. We've heard from two reliable sources that the space, at 100 Rivington Street and Ludlow Street, will be reopening as a women's shoe store. But here's the rub: one of those very reliable tipsters whispers "it's going to be a Steve Madden boutique." Note: our brother site Curbed broke this story almost a year ago (that post contains another juicy nugget: that a Betsey Johnson store will be opening next to Madden at 102 Rivington in the former Rivington Arms space). You may recall that not too long ago, Steve Madden infiltrated the West Village when he signed a lease at 355 Bleecker Street between Charles and West 10th Streets. So now LES locals have a choice: vintage shoes from Edith Machinist or shiny new clodhoppers from her neighbor Madden. No need to travel to a mall!
