Sarah Jessica Parker's new line for megachain Steve & Barry's, Bitten, will be in stores this coming Thursday and we're feeling pretty ambivalent about it. The only remarkable thing about the collection, other than how cheap it is (every piece is under $20), is the amount of controversy it's garnered. When images of the clothing leaked onto the internet, readers ridiculed the "Old Navy-like" looks of the pieces. Soon after, Steve & Barry's made bloggers take down the photos. Then, there was a backlash over Parker's "manifesto" for the collection—which is, painfully, "It is every woman's inalienable right to have a pulled-together, stylish, confident wardrobe with money left over to live." Recently, SJP appeared on Oprah and in the pages of Glamour magazine to flog the clothes. So after everything has been said and done, and the hype train has run it's course, the final question is: will the collection sell? We don't expect to see lines at Steve & Barry's on Thursday morning, but then again, given Parker's star power, anything is possible. If you're interested in stopping by to check out the clothes, the only NYC Steve & Barry's is located in the Manhattan Mall at Sixth Avenue and 33rd Street. The store opens at 9am.
