Sample sales can either be busy as hell, with lines, manic crowds and bag and coat check—or they can be dead and eerily silent. The Repetto sale, ending at 6pm today in the East Village, was definitely the latter. Racked stopped by yesterday and was not too impressed with the French shoe company's sample sale acumen. A rule of thumb: price the merchandise! Every time we asked the cost of a pair, a salesperson would have to refer to a long price list. The venue, nightspot Boucaro Lounge, was an odd choice—we were directed inside by two massive, surly bouncers; Nelly and Jay-Z rapped hollowly overhead while we tried on delicate flats. Dedicated Repetto fans might be excited at the prospect of scoring footwear for 50% off retail, but we balked at paying $80-$150 per pair. Those, my friends, are not exactly rock-bottom prices.
