RackedWire: A Flashy New Chase, Downtown Bodega Shortage?

New, 2 comments

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

GRAMERCY—Spurred by our Mo' Banks coverage earlier, a Racked correspondent sends word that a brand new Chase has opened on Third Avenue. The report: "Happened upon a chase branch that just opened TODAY on 3rd ave between 19th & 20th...there were TEN tellers behind the window, for me and one other customer. INSANITY. I couldn't fit them all in one shot, you can see six or seven of them here though. Most were just standing back there." Now that's service. [RackedWire]

EAST/GREENWICH/WEST VILLAGES—What dastardly force is killing bodegas all over downtown Manhattan? A tipster writes: "I'm not sure if Racked would cover something like this but I noticed a rash of bodega closings recently in the Village. Green East at 10th street and 4th ave, Galaxy Deli is up for lease on 10th Street and 3rd Ave, the bodega at Bleecker and Christopher is also shuttered. (there are some more also that have escaped me) I don't know if it's worth looking into for a story or not but thought I'd send it your way." [RackedWire Inbox]
