Above The Fray: Garment District Sample Sale Report

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

'Tis the season... for sample sales!! Overwhelmed by the sheer number of sales going on? Yeah, us too. Never fear, though: Racked swung by some sales in the Garment District this afternoon so you wouldn't have to. Here, 4-1-1:

Label: Sylvia Heisel
The silk selection is a little matronly. Think Palm Beach meets India. We'll pass and so should you.

Label: Kier + J
There is a good amount of cashmere inventory remaining, and the price is right at $40, $60, and $80 a pop. You'll find various sweater styles in mostly muted colors. The sale has been extended through next week, and prices will continue to fall until then. No dressing room. Cash only. Go go go!

Label: Inhabit
Get there now. There is still a vast color and style assortment of cashmere available: cardigans, v-necks, crew necks, turtlenecks, dresses, tanks, and so on. Items are priced by style at $40, $60, $80, and $100. It's a bit of a shitshow, just warning you... the staff is surly, the space is cramped, the lines are long. But this is some serious cashmere, people!

Label: Lauren Moffatt
Their zip dresses and tunic-style blouses are cute, but quantity is limited. The discount may be substantial, but that doesn't mean the prices are low. Most pieces were between $100-200. No dressing room and cash only unless over $200. We say skip.
