Rackage: Jacques Torres

New, 4 comments

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Rackage is a look inside recently-opened stores around town. Today, we drop in to sample the sweets at Jacques Torres' new UWS emporium.

Mr. Chocolate himself, Jacques Torres, has landed on the Upper West Side. Torres' impressive Amsterdam Ave outpost, his third in the city, opened a week and a half ago. The decor, like the product it showcases, is elegant and refined: shiny oak flooring, twinkling crystal chandeliers and dark walnut walls. The shop is filled with artisanal treats such as bonbons, truffles, pastries, chocolate-covered coffee beans and hot chocolate. Altogether, not a bad place to do some holiday shopping this year. When he finds the time, Torres plans on adding homemade s'mores, nougat and fudge to the store's roster (rollout date for those items TK).
