Muji scarves, belts and tees
The staff at Muji graciously opened the doors to their first US outpost early this morning to press, who sniffed around the quiet, neat store while munching on gratis bagels and other breakfasty items. The place was filled with a well-organized assortment of basic items for house and home, but there was precious little furniture to be found. Instead, we saw a lot of utilitarian clothing, tabletop, bedding and desktop items, all rendered in neutral shades. The shirts, jackets, dresses, pants, shoes and accessories all had a Uniqlo-on-quaaludes type of vibe, if you get our drift, which was actually pretty cool. We were pretty excited to discover that the company sells luggage and makeup, which just goes to show how they can really outfit you with just about everything you need for day to day life (aside from food, of course). Items aren't cheap (the plaid scarf we coveted, pictured above, was about $26), but they are very affordable, especially given their quality. The store, located at 455 Broadway in Soho, opens to the public at noon. We expect it to be quite busy, but it probably won't be a complete mob scene.
The store at 9:30am this morning.
Check out those alarm clocks.

More clothing. Clothing dominated a good quarter of the store.
