Live from Red Hook: The Fairway Building's Artisans

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

One of the unique things about Red Hook are the plethora of live/work spaces that attract artists and artisans. Getting behind closed doors, however, can be a challenge if you don't do your homework first. Two such folks worth tracking down inhabit the Fairway Building: Jim Clark, who runs the Inuit art gallery Look North (photos above and after the jump), which Curbed also toured earlier today. And in the exact space one floor below, Andrew Raible—the sixth generation of his family to make furniture—exhibits and sells his work at Standard41. Both of these fine gentlemen await your appointment.
