As was rumored, Trader Joe's Queens is indeed opening at 90-30 Metropolitan Avenue in Rego Park this Friday. Not with a big bash, or a huge press preview the night before—no, the tropical themed discount grocery is simply opening its doors to the neighborhood on Friday for business. A fun fact about this location, from the NY Daily News:

Like the chain's other stores - there's one skedded [ed. note: what? scheduled, perhaps] for Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn next year - the Rego Park branch uses its locale in its decorating schemes, including half a dozen Rego Park row houses that have been reproduced over the cash registers. (If you recognize one as yours, says Chirgwin, you can win groceries.)
To say that people in the area are excited about this supermarket opening is an understatement, and it probably will be a complete shitshow for the first month or two. Keep your pants on Brooklyn, this will be you in a year or so.
