EAST VILLAGE—Soy-wax-candle, handmade-soap and collectible shop Iron Fairies opened today on St. Mark's Place in the East Village. From the press materials we received, we've learned that the store is named after an Australian children's book about tiny workers in the iron mines in Western Australia (for more on that, visit their website). The store decided to welcome new customers with a comely lass dressed as, what else, a fairy. Expect to see her canvassing the streets nearby for customers. [RackedWire]

LOWER EAST SIDE—This is strange: Former presidential candidate/US Senator/US Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun held a press conference of sorts this morning at Bowery Whole Foods to announce her new line of teas, called Ambassador Organics. Loose-leaf and bagged varieties of the tea are on shelves at Whole Foods now, people. Feel the excitement. [RackedWire]
