RackedWire: Signs Of Life In CBGB's Space & More!

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

EAST VILLAGE—Pulled from the Curbed comments is this interesting little nugget of info: "FYI, CBGB is officially under construction. This morning workers were hacking this dark rough-hewn wood with nails out of CBGB. Huge pile on sidewalk. Looked like bunk beds or booths or something. Heard its a Starbucks." We're not buying the last bit about Starbucks—after all, one is already going in nearby. Starbucks replacing CBGB? That would almost be worse than when the Second Avenue Deli was replaced by a Chase. [Curbed]

NOLITA—According to a Racked source, the much-anticipated artisanal candy store Papabubble has not opened today as was scheduled. From said source: "Mmm, there's a new place called Papabubble: Caramels Artesans opening up at 380 Broome. Just walked by construction for it last night, and it sounded intriguing. Looks like they have shops in Tokyo, Amsterdam, and Barcelona, and they make sugary concoctions right in front of you. Their website says they're opening up today, 10/18, but I seriously doubt that will happen. The place looked like an empty construction site last night." [RackedWire Inbox]
