Though the annual Museum Selfie Day took place a mere two weeks ago, not all forms of selfies are welcome in the city's art institutions—CBS New York reports that both MoMA and the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum have banned selfie sticks, citing the fact that they could pose a danger to other visitors and the objects on view. Well, yeah.
"You can, just by looking at this, imagine the havoc a selfie stick might wreak in this kind of space," said Jennifer Northrup of the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. Though the Guggenheim prohibits all photography beyond its rotunda, therefore banning selfie sticks implicitly, the Met is also reportedly considering the ban. Another idea: ban selfie sticks altogether, everywhere.
