Few frustrations are as acute as attempting to find a solid petite section in New York—in fact, there was a 2006 New York Times article dedicated to the widespread disappointment by women under 5'4" when the smaller sizes were slashed en masse by a handful of department stores, leaving them with two options: Either go to a tailor and spend more money, or shop in the junior's section and risk looking like a kid.
Unfortunately, little has changed in the decade since—in fact, nearly all brands restrict their petite sections to their online shops. And despite the rise of e-comm retailers with extensive petite sizes (hey, ASOS!), we firmly believe a short gal deserves the right to try on her clothes before buying them. Below, we've mapped out the last, shrinking (no pun intended) vestiges of NYC's petite sections.
