Leave it to the mysterious Goyard to open its first New York City boutique with zero fanfare. The high-end French leather goods store has been open inside a townhouse at 20 East 63rd Street, just off of Madison Avenue, for "a couple of weeks now," according to a sales associate, complete with carpeted stairs, dark wooden shelves, and four-digit prices in tiny gold numbering next to each item.
Find handbags and small leather goods like card holders and wallets on the first floor, past the mosaic-tiled entrance but before the serene courtyard with white patio furniture and a black wrought-iron staircase that serves as a non-terrifying fire escape.
And on the second level, peruse more handbag options, trunks, and a little display case for perhaps the nicest (read: most expensive) pet accessories out there, complemented by framed sketch portraits of pups in the first room you walk into. And in the second room, facing the street, marvel at a large swath of leather depicting monogramming options with brightly-colored stars that offset the seriousness of the neutral pieces.
The shop is open daily from 10am to 6pm, and closes at 7pm on Thursdays.
