Roland Mouret's long-awaited first U.S. store opened today at 952 Madison Avenue, WWD reports—an address the designer chose instead of Soho or Fifth Avenue for its "village mentality."
"I'm going to grow old with my customer," Mouret told the paper. "You have to learn how your customer was one day at 30 and she goes to her 40s and to her 50s. Oscar de la Renta understood that really well, and I think I'm in the vein of this type of designer."
The 1,400-square-foot store, which previously aimed for a June opening, carries women's ready-to-wear, accessories, his bridal collection, as well as the Galaxy dress—an in-store exclusive. Expect marble floors, bright red benches, and antique furniture surrounding the collections, which hang on racks secured to the ceilings (the mark of a truly fancy store).
"I have an amazing chemistry with American women," said Mouret, "and it was time for me to open in New York and really to start to develop my image in America."
