Remember that underground mall the MTA wanted to create in the Columbus Circle subway station? It's definitely still on, and now tenants are starting to roll in. Crain's New York reports that eyewear brand Specs New York, tech and travel accessories seller Bluwire, and Manhattan Studios have signed on to 10-year spaces in the corridor that leads to the Hearst Tower, which has been dubbed Turnstyle. They're scheduled to open this spring.
And while these are the first tenants that we've heard of, development company Oases RE already has more than half of the 26,000 square feet of selling space locked down in leases. "The response from retailers has far exceeded our expectations at this stage," CEO Susan Fine told the business site. She's looking to include a mix of local and national brands, as well as international retailers who have yet to come stateside.
Of those local businesses, Commercial Observer has heard rumors that Dylan's Candy Bar and Magnolia Cupcakes could open there as well. In total, Turnstyle will include up to 30 storefronts that'll range from 250 to 1,000 square feet each.
