Dover Street Market is already known for its exclusives, whether it's a collaboration with Prada or the American debut of brands like Moynat. Now they're importing London's Idea Books to the New York store for a shop-in-shop that'll feature—what else—the largest selection of rare Comme des Garçons publications ever assembled, according to Business of Fashion.
Idea Books has been around for more than 15 years now, selling hard-to-find and out-of-print books and magazines on fashion, art, architecture, and design by appointment out of a small office in the city's Soho neighborhood (plus at their local DSM). It's run by Angela Hill and David Owen, and BoF says influencers like photographer Bruce Weber, Chloé designer Clare Waight Keller (who called them "an addiction"), and Nicolas Ghesquière often use their titles for inspiration.
"Everything about Idea Books is special," James Gilchrist, general manager of Dover Street Market New York, told BoF. "I can't think of any other book store in the world with such an amazingly edited collection of very rare fashion, art and design books."
"What I really like about them is you can ask them to search and they find everything pretty quickly," said Kim Jones, the menswear designer for Louis Vuitton. "They understand what I want and know my interests, and the magazine collections they get always impress me."
