Back in 2012, North Development Corp. announced the renovation of an empty factory building on Bushwick's Bogart Street into "Morgantown Center," a "grittier Chelsea Market." (A popular concept right now! The Pink Building on Orchard Street may undergo a similar transformation.)
It was slated to open now, actually, but that never happened. Instead, developers and architects have been fussing with the plans, adding and subtracting levels from the proposed building.
The latest renderings show a structure with a seven-story tower, which, as real estate blog Wyckoff Heights points out, looks suspiciously residential. Their best guesses: Either Morgantown Center will house a hotel, or it's being rezoned to include condos.
But back to the "gritter Chelsea market" thing! Why not give the young people of Bushwick—the ones who this place is being marketed to—what they can't find at any Brooklyn flea market. A real-deal suburban-style mall designed specifically to capitalize on early-aughts nostalgia—Claire's, Hot Topic, Dippin' Dots, and all. Possibly open 24/7, with Thursday night boyband-themed dance parties in the food court.
