Our sister site combed through New Jersey newspapers this week to check on the status of the forthcoming, $1.8 billion American Dream Meadowlands mall that's looking to build an insane ferris wheel and, possibly, the world's biggest wave pool. If all goes according to plan, the mall will open in 2016 in East Rutherford.
There were no signs of construction in June, but officials insist the project's right on schedule. Potential hold ups, though, revolve around Governors Chris Christie, who's in hot water over an investigative report published by The Nation. Racked explains:
The Nation reports that Christie's administration and Christie-connected New Jersey law firm Wolff & Samson pushed for the development at every opportunity, and that the funding for the American Dream Meadowland is an "incredibly convoluted and risky set of arrangements" including as much as $500 million in bonds issued by the town of East Rutherford, New Jersey.
