Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
We swung by day two of the DVF sample sale today and were pleased to find the sale is still well-stocked. There were no further markdowns since yesterday, and the staff was reluctant to tell us if there will be further discounts. We recommend checking out the sale regardless, because the deals are better this time around than they were at the previous sale.
Unlike yesterday, there was no line outside when we arrived at 260 Fifth Avenue at 11:30am, but inside the sale was pretty hectic. Since there's so much stock, the space is cramped—be prepared to have your patience tested. There was a line for the fitting room, and it was long.
Dresses still dominate the sale, though in the smaller sizes we did find more casual day dresses than special-occasion, including sweater wrap styles and cotton shifts, both $100. Cocktail dresses are more limited in stock, but expect to find one-shoulder dip dyed chiffon gowns and beaded tank dresses ($150).
Tops, like yesterday, are still limited: most of what we found were tees, including boxy chiffon styles and long-sleeved printed cotton varieties ($60). There were still some blazers left, but the variety in smaller sizes was a bit more limited than what we found yesterday (sizes 8 and above have slightly better options).
Bottoms again are made up mostly of work trousers ($60), although there were more options on the sample racks, which are still very well-stocked. All samples are still $50, and the quality is mostly the same as yesterday (some damages, but nothing too difficult to fix). Some of our favorite finds from this section were a suede trumpet skirt, lace-trimmed sweater dresses, and embroidered tunics.
We did notice slightly more in the way of accessories than we did yesterday, although this could be because the section is now a mess and everything is sort of all over the place. Some bags we didn't see yesterday: studded leather shoulder bags ($175) and zebra-print canvas totes for $50.
We'd recommend stopping by only you have a lot of time and patience to spare, because it's definitely messier than yesterday. The staff will continue to restock throughout the duration of the sale, and we're still not sure about further markdowns.—Gillian Fuller
