The Cosabella sample sale opened yesterday in the back of the brand's store at 220 Lafayette Street in Soho. It's a small, cramped space filled with high quality Italian lingerie, in an assortment of colors and style.
Inside the sale, prices start at just $7 for miscellaneous items that are placed inside a glass jar by the cashier. (There are only a couple of things here, like black socks and sleeping eyepatches. Not so great.) The next best deal is the $10 bargain bin, which is filled with clothing from past seasons. Here, we found a velvet black dress, a lone fuschia polyamide skirt, a couple of lacy purple dresses, and a white beachy tunic. Everything looked like it was a size medium, and there wasn't much to pick from.
Most of the delicate lingerie and newer collections are hanging on racks for easy access, while the rest of the stock is stuffed in carton boxes. This makes finding styles and items in your size not very easy. If you have the time, dig into the boxes filled with various tops ($50, originally for $115); wire bras ($45, from $85); camisoles and pants ($40, originally $80 and $135); a bunch of swim bra tops ($35, originally $100), and boxers ($25, originally $40).
Robes are now $65 were $170); chemises, short dresses, and babydolls are $60 (were $150); various bikini separates are $15 (were $36); and thongs and g-strings are $14 (were $20). Swimwear bottoms are $35 (were $80) and swimwear one-piece suits are $60 (were $120). Sizes were spotty, but they range from small to extra-large while cupped bras range from 32B to 36D.
More pricing: PJ sets are $75, cover-ups are $65, bustiers and skirts are $40, soft bras are $30, and hot pants are $19.
Some noteworthy items include the Sol One Piece in purple for $60. A white bustier that's very similar to the Alice Cropped Bustier (seen in the 50th anniversary Sports Illustrated) is $40. The Elise slip, which retails for $179.50, is $60. The Never Say Never thong in blue is $14, and the Thea Bandeau bra in mauve is $45 (was $90). Celine hotpants in pink, yellow, and beige are $19.
There are no dressing rooms, but there's a sofa where shoppers plopped their try-ons and started stripping down. There's one mirror in the corner of the room for everyone to share. When we asked about more sizes for certain styles, the staff told us that everything is out.
Just before passing the curtains to enter the sale in the back, you'll pass by two racks filled with lingerie from the past season, where the bras and underwear are all 30% off and the robes, babydolls, camis, loungewear and garter belts are all 50% off.
The sale runs through Tuesday, from 11am to 7pm daily at 220 Lafayette Street. See the gallery above for more photos from inside.—Hsini
