Four days later and the Gant sample sale is still in full swing. Things are calm and airy inside, with lots of breathing and browsing room (especially when compared to the overwrought atmosphere at the Diptyque sale), and as before, 70% off the ticketed price. Though reductions haven't been taken yet, it's safe to say prices will most likely drop toward the weekend.
Pants make up one entire wall of the sale, with a variety of sizes from 28-36 still available, and a variety of colors in earthy, spring tones—lots of khakis and corduroy, pink denim, cotton dress pants, and light grey Gant by Michael Bastian cords (originally retailing for $225, they're only $68 after the discount). Most of the other pants in stock are around $54.
Button-downs in all sizes and all colors, primarily striped or checkered prints, make up the two neighboring racks. Retail prices range from $115-$125 (now $35-$38), with a soft Gant by Michael Bastian cotton button-down topping off $50. Jackets and outerwear, including windbreakers, puffy vests, autumn tweed, and even warm winter coats, take up the full next rack, with multiples of most items still available. Prices vary from $98 for a vest to $128 for a puffer to $375 for a Gant by Michael Bastian light brown leather number.
Blazers are still available in sizes 44-52, and prices range from $179 for pinstripes to $209 for a checkered Gant by Michael Bastian piece. Alongside the blazers, five tables of huge, cozy winter sweaters—just like the kind Grandma might knit—are in full stock, including one table of sizes XXL and 3XL. Prices here ranged from $54-$98.
Toward the back, a small women's section mostly includes outerwear ($143 for a short grey pea coat and $645 for a belted brown leather-and-fur jacket) and a handful of airy business casual tops, skirts, and dresses, with one notable gold sequin exception ($113) and a black long-sleeved T-shirt featuring a vibrant print at the bottom, aptly named the "Art Deco" top for $68 (was $225).
Shoes are almost entirely gone. When we were there, only five pairs of women's boots and two pairs of men's lace-up oxfords were left. But there are still plenty of accessories to consider, including a full table of socks ($10-$18), ties ($35-$38), and pocket squares ($20), as well as a selection of cold-weather necessities, including hats, gloves, and a bright cranberry ($24) amongst other items. On your way out, don't forget to stop by the belt table ($35-$38), where a surprise three watches are also still on sale (act quickly if you want one of those!)
Merchandise is still being restocked, which bodes well for an already expansive sale. Stop by today through Sunday to pick up something great and surprise your man or yourself. The sale runs until 8pm today, from 9am—7pm tomorrow, from 10am—7pm on Saturday, and from 10am—5pm on Sunday at 260 Fifth Avenue.—Marina Charny
