With fourteen locations and five new storefronts slated to open this year, Juice Press has enjoyed an immense amount of success in the mere four years it's been open. The "raw juice and smoothie bar of the future" arrived on the scene in April of 2010, and is currently spearheaded by founder Marcus Antebi, who got into the biz when he started training in Thai boxing.
Shortly thereafter, New York Yankee Mark Teixeira became an early investor—which brings us to last Friday, when Mark and Marcus hosted an event at Soho Strength Lab, a new boutique fitness studio on Mulberry Street and the new home to its very own Juice Press.
The small space inside Soho Strength Lab packs a big punch, and offers a solid selection of brews for pre- and post-workout sessions. While sipping on an Aloe Water at last week's event, Marcus discussed the benefits of juice, the company's future goals, and why those bottles filled with the fruits of Mother Earth come with such a hefty price tag. (He promised that if he could bottle it for $1 he would), but unfortunately the price is high for fresh and organic produce).
Within the next two months, five new Juice Press locations are set to open in the New York area, including Tribeca, Lower Manhattan's Freedom Tower, and Midtown West. The company's goal is to ultimately be one of many making juice accessible and ubiquitous, and is looking to open close to 50 locations in the next two years.
If all goes according to plan, it'd be safe to say that Juice Press has found the secret ingredient. Teixeira added that he gets his favorite bottles delivered twice a week while spring training in Tampa. He's a personal fan of the L'ait de Coconut because of its protein, but praises all of the smoothies for a post-workout boost. If a New York Yankee says so...—Esther Levy-Chehebar
