Just like last year, we've tapped a handful of reputable fashion friends to weigh in on 2013's greatest hits (and misses). Next up: we asked everyone to name their favorite new store of the year.
Chloé on Greene Street
Claire Mazur, Of a Kind: Veda's new store is so good! It doesn't look like every other store in Soho and I really appreciate that. There's this beautiful design on the floor that she did by pouring concrete around marble—such a good detail. Last time I was in there I just walked around petting all the
leather.
Nicolette Mason, blogger: & Other Stories—but why isn't it in NYC yet?! It's one of the coolest concepts ever, and I'm happy I got to experience it and shop on recent trips to Berlin and London.
Lauren Sherman, Editor-at-Large at Fashionista: I think the Chloé store in Soho is really well designed. For shopping on the regular, I can't complain about the Sleepy Jones pop up!
Izzy Grinspan, Racked Editorial Director: Having a Muji open NEXT TO OUR OFFICE was pretty life-changing.
Connie Wang, Style Director at Refinery29: & Other Stories. It's not in the United States yet, but it's got such a great, solid collection of occasion-less clothes at pretty reasonable price-points. The pieces are all so versatile but fashion-forward.
Jamie Shupak, NY1 Traffic Anchor: My favorite new store (though it's not exactly a store and it's definitely not new—but it's new to me) is Madame Paulette. They're a high-end cleaning and restoration service that specializes in bridal gowns. I brought them my mom's which was yellowed, stained, and wrinkled—you should've seen the shape it was in—and they turned it into a beautiful white dress that I can now wear to my wedding. They put it through a month-long cleaning/whitening process that saved it, and by proxy, saved me from having to shop for a wedding gown!
Magdalena Jaworska, O.N.A.: I'm excited to check out Dover Street Market!
Erica Cerulo, Of a Kind: I can't walk down Mulberry Street without walking into the McNally Jackson Store Goods for the Study—and, ok, buying something. The shop is filled with, basically, design-y office supplies, but they're presented in such an enticing way—arranged on desks that you can also purchase and scattered on really pretty bookshelves. Plus, there's a whole range of price points, so you can legit make a $7 purchase and feel like you got something special and cool.
Mizhattan, blogger: The Balenciaga flagship in Soho. So many details that gave reference to Alexander Wang's debut collection, such as the marble patterns, laser-cuts, and black caviar embroidery.
Sidney Morgan Petro, Retail Editor of Stylesight: Dover Street Market is definitely the coolest thing to happen to New York retail this year. Besides the store being beautiful, I love that they picked such an offbeat neighborhood—I have a feeling they'll be pioneers for changing the landscape of that area.
Briana Swords, Swords-Smith: Swords-Smith, obviously! I also love Personnel of New York and the new Dover Street Market.
