With Christmas just five days away, it's time to tie up the loose ends on that gift wrap. Apparently, 'tis the season for holiday pop-up shops, though a good chunk of them are ending this weekend. Here's the lowdown on which shops are ending their run—from Birchbox to the Hester Holiday Market—as well as which ones are open past the holidays and into 2014.—Esther Levy-Chehebar
Final Days
Julep
When: Through Saturday, December 21st. Daily 10am—8pm.
Where:Union Square, 102 Fifth Avenue.
Shop the online beauty brand's nail polishes, skincare, and more IRL at their Lower Fifth Avenue pop-up shop. A mezzanine lounge is stocked with fashion books to browse and a hot cocoa bar for a quick warm up.
Juniper Ridge
When: Through Saturday December 21st. Fri 12pm—8pm, Sat—Sun 10am—6pm.
Where: Williamsburg, 101 N. 8th Street.
One of the earliest pop-ups to open this year was Juniper Ridge at Barber & Supply in Williamsburg. The shop carries the brand's signature wilderness infused and inspired fragrances, like Backpacker's Colognes and Cabin Sprays, and also includes a special whiskey distiller outside. Birchbox Holiday Pop-In
When: Through Saturday, December 21st. Fri—Sat 11am—8pm. Services available from 5pm—8pm.
Where: Dagny + Barstow, 264 Bowery.
A range of beauty products from Birchbox's online shop will be in store, including best sellers from Jouer, Stila, and Serge Normat. Additionally, services including updos, makeup touch-ups, and nail art will be available on weekend evenings, with prices starting at $20.
The Hester Holiday Market
When: Through Saturday, December 21st. Daily 11am—7pm.
Where: Nomad, 835 Sixth Avenue.
The Hester Street Fair's third annual holiday market is packed with vintage vendors, indie jewelry, exclusive holiday items, crafts, and more. And they're also accepting Bitcoins.
Google Winter Wonderlab
When: Through Sunday, December 22nd. Fri—Sat 11am—10pm, Sun 11am—6pm.
Where: Corner Near 42nd Street and Sixth Avenue, Bryant Park
Play around with Google's roster of phones, tablets, and laptops while you wait to make a slow motion video in their giant snow globe. You can order devices on the spot, but you can't walk away with anything same day.
Wired Store
When: Through Sunday, December 22nd, Daily 12pm—8pm.
Where: Meatpacking, 353 West 14th Street.
This tech-favorite pop-up marries exploration with gift shopping. Nerd out on one-of-a-kind prototypes, then tackle the holiday list with items ranging from personal electronics to kitchen gadgets.
Open Past This Weekend
Nicopanda Ho Ho Ho Holiday Experience
When: Through Monday, December 23. Daily 3:15pm to 9:15pm.
Where: Tribeca, 50 White Street.
Nicola Formichetti's second pop-up shop in Tribeca glows in the dark and includes a range of his Nicopanda tee shirts, tongue-in-cheek accessories, drunk elves, and a lot of other wacky stuff. Since words don't do it justice, check out the link above for photos.
Le Cabinet de Curiosités of Thomas Erber Hosted by Maison Kitsuné:
When: Through Monday, December 23rd. Daily, 12pm—8:30pm.
Where: The Avant/Garde Diaries Project Space at 372 Broome Street, Nolita; Maison Kitsuné at 1170 Broadway, Nomad.
Shop wildly-luxe products at this globe-hopping pop-up shop, which has two locations in the city right now. High-end items from around the world are available, including jewelry by House of Waris and Bliss Lau, cashmere pajamas from Alexander Olch, and fancy helmets by Ateliers Ruby.
Rock Paper Photo Holiday Pop-Up
When: Through Tuesday, December 24th.
Where: Chelsea, Gallery 151, 131 West 18th Street.
Shop for last minute or belated gifts at the Exposure holiday pop-up, where never-before-seen photos from The Beatles, Miles Davis, and Andy Warhol are all up for grabs.
Union Square Holiday Market
When: Through Tuesday, December 24th. Mon—Fri 11am—8pm, Sat 10am—8pm, Sun 11am—7pm.
Where: Union Square.
The Union Square market boasts 150 vendors, with merchandise that includes jewelry, home decor items, tons of gift options, crafts, and food and drinks to snack on, like Momofuku Milk Bar. Here are the booths to catch.
Grand Central Terminal
When: Through Tuesday, December 24th. Mon—Sat 10am—8pm, Sun 11am—7pm.
Where: Vanderbilt Hall.
The 14th annual holiday market at Grand Central this season also celebrates the terminal's centennial, and features 76 vendors spanning all categories: art, home goods, bath and body products, items for pets, and more. Here are the booths to catch.
Columbus Circle Holiday Market
When:Through Tuesday, December 24th. Mon—Sat 10am—8pm, Sun 10am—7pm.
Where: Columbus Circle.
The last of the neighborhood markets to open this season were the Columbus Avenue holiday shops, with handcrafted gifts and all sorts of food (Turkish, Mexican, and comfort food all included). Here are the booths to catch.
Divine Details
When: Through Saturday, December 28th. Mon—Fri 11am—7pm, Wed and Sat 11am—8pm.
Where: Flatiron, 164 Fifth Avenue.
One part store, one part gallery, this shop hones in on well-designed iterations of everyday things. For example, indestructible but beautiful wine glasses, a tissue box cover shaped like a little house (the tissues come out of the chimney), and wireless speakers are among the offerings. Each object has a short, fictional story displayed next to it.
Specials on C Go East
When: Through Sunday, December 29th, Wed—Sun 1pm—8pm.
Where: Alphabet City, 195 Avenue C.
Once a deli ravaged by Sandy, this little storefront has been rescued by a group of Alphabet City locals as a cafe and store. For the holidays, young American designers are featured, with objects ranging from gold earrings to industrial pet bowls. Here's what you'll find inside.
Bryant Park Holiday Shops
When:Through Sunday, January 5th. Mon—Fri 11am—8pm, Sat 10am—9pm, Sun 10am—6pm.
Where: Bryant Park.
The holiday market at Bryant Park opened earlier this month, with everything from clothing to local food from 125 different vendors. Here are the booths to catch.
Brika x The Coveteur Pop Up Shop
When: Through Monday, January 6th. Mon—Thurs 11am—8pm, Fri 11am—10pm, Sat—Sun 10:30am—9pm.
Where: The Paramount Hotel, 235 W 46th Street.
The Coveteur curated a selection of gifts from the Brika website, breaking them down into categories: gifts for him, her, hosts and hostesses, little ones, and more. There's even a special selection of gifts for every sign in the zodiac, pulled together by astrologer Susan Miller.
Rudy's Barbershop
When: Through Tuesday, January 31st. Coffee and Retail hours: Sun—Thurs 8am—7pm, Fri—Sat 8am—8pm. Rudy's Barbershop hours: Fri—Sun 12pm—7pm.
Where: Williamsburg, 33 Grand Street.
This year, Rudy's Barbershop brought Poler Camping Stuff and Verve Coffee Roasters straight from the West Coast for its seasonal Brooklyn pop-up shop. In addition to Rudy's services on the weekends, check out Poler's camping gear and apparel, as well as a brew bar staffed with expert baristas from Verve.
The Williamsburg Winter Flea
When: Through April 13th. Sat—Sun 10am—7pm.
Where: Williamsburg, 80 N 5th Street.
The Brooklyn Flea's new indoor location on N. 5th Street is filled with 200 vendors and 75 food booths—meaning there will be plenty of gifts and trinkets to shop, and plenty to eat along the way.
