Last season's YSL sample sale was an expensive bust, and the sale opening to the public tomorrow looks to be about the same. Mizhattan heard via a tipster from today's VIP preview that the "merchandise was comprised of ancient Stefano Pilati designs and nothing from Hedi Slimane's current lineup."
That was sort of expected, since the sale is still being billed as Yves Saint Laurent and not Saint Laurent, but what's more of a disappointment is the dismal bag selection, which a different tipster says was "almost non-existent." Madison Avenue Spy spotted "a few patent leather Roadys with tarnished hardware for $200."
Shoes, however, don't sound like they're as big of a letdown. Mizhattan adds: "Prices range from $150 to $300, [and] there were a few cute sandals & heels—but this all depends on your size."
As for the clothing, what the sale lacks in current collections it apparently makes up for in discounts. "If you're a real YSL fan and don't mind past season's Stefano Pilati then you will make out big. All skirts and pants are priced at $50 and full-on gowns are just $400. One of these evening stunners had an original price tag that was over $22,000."
