East side menswear shopping just keeps getting sweeter. Saks, Bergdorf Goodman, and Barneys have all committed to overhauling their gentlemanly offerings, and now Lord & Taylor has completed an expansion of their menswear department. Guys have gained double the shopping real estate, bringing the total to 100,000 square feet over two floors.
The ninth floor, which was previously home products and offices, now houses sportswear, contemporary lines, and an expanded denim range. L&T has doubled the footprint of their in-house line, Black Brown 1826, which sits where the office of the store's president was previously. The office's fireplace, wood paneling, and flooring have been retained.
On the tenth floor, shoppers will find an airy design, an expanded Hugo Boss department, and an expansive tailored clothing area. Additionally, the shoe department has grown. Across the men's area, Lord & Taylor has tripled the number of mannequins, and added 22 brands. "The message we want is that we are actively in the brand-acquisition mode. We have the ability to be a specialty store in a department store setting," said the company's senior vice president and general merchandise manager of men's wear.
Much like execs at other major department stores have expressed, the goal of L&T's expanded menswear assortment is to draw in a younger, more contemporary shopper without alienating the existing customer. The makeover is part of a two-year $40 million renovation plan for the flagship.
