Barneys just sent around an email confirming the dates and times of the upcoming Warehouse Sale, and noticeably missing from it was any mention of women's merchandise. We've known for a while now that the selection at future sales (including this one) will "turn heavily toward men's," but we didn't think that meant there would be nothing for women. But that's what it sounds like.
The email reads: "This year's sale is sure to be the menswear event of the year, with up to 75% off retail prices on our selection of men's designer clothing and accessories." We reached out to Barneys immediately after they sent it out to confirm whether or not the sale is strictly just men's (as of publishing time we were awaiting a reply). We also called the Metropolitan Pavillion, who, despite being pretty forthcoming last week, said that only Barneys could speak to specifics of the sale.
For now, we've got this to go on: Daniella Vitale, Barney's chief merchant and executive VP, told WWD back in January: "The origin of the warehouse sale was as a men's sale. While men's tailored clothing is a little harder to sell, in some ways it's going back to the original concept."
Update, 3:00pm: We've just heard back from Barneys. Their response reads: "While we will have an offering of womenswear at the sale, the line share of merchandise will be tailored clothing, designer RTW and accessories from our top menswear designers. And don't forget a large selection of womens merchandise at up 75% off retail prices is always available on barneyswarehouse.com."
