Bookstores aren't dead—they've just moved to Bushwick, and they've attracted quite a social crowd. From nightly talks to book release parties for local authors and even dance parties, the Brooklyn literati have certainly been taking advantage of the recent revival of bookstores in the growing neighborhood.
DNAInfo reports that several independent bookshops and a library have opened in Bushwick over the last year, including Molasses Books, which hosts DJ parties every Tuesday evening and has a beer and liquor license—making it the perfect spot to read and drink during the day. On the more sobering side, Catland Books is an "occult and metaphysical-themed book shop," where talks, readings, and performance art takes place.
With these and a store inside an art gallery, another that hosts "radical political gatherings," and even an independent library with live music, any bookworm can find a niche here. Now put down the Kindle and hop on that L train, already.—Laura Gurfein
