Maybe the soaring temps are causing writer's block? In the past week, both the New York Times and WWD posted stories on men's Wall Street style in the context of the brutal heat wave that just passed through. And through the results of their extensive research, we've learned that they wear...suits. Still.
WWD prefaced their 36-page slideshow by informing readers that these power guys are "opting for lighter-colored suits, easy separates, and a lot of jacket holding." Um, just because you're holding a jacket doesn't mean you're not wearing a suit.
The pictures show guys wearing suits while wearing the jacket and not wearing the jacket. They even were able to snap a pic of a guy in his full suit walking next to a guy holding his jacket (pictured above, because it's just that brilliant).
And NYT went so far as to create a video interviewing passersby on how to dress weather-appropriate while still fitting the corporate dress code. "I work with a lot of guys [and] they're all in suits. There isn't a lot of style," commented a female sales trader, dressed in a knee-length skirt and a matching cami-cardi set. Clearly, the suit standard does not apply to her. Personally, we'd have liked to have seen an interview with a sweaty guy ruining his best suit—now that's hard-hitting stuff.—Laura Gurfein
