The Monika Chiang sample sale kicked off at Chelsea Market this morning, and though there aren't any clothes available from the brand backed by billionaire boyfriend Christopher Burch, we spotted a good selection of shoes, bags, and belts for up to 65% off their retail prices.
The biggest draw is the footwear selection, of which there are several varieties. Starting with the cheapest stuff, you can find ballet flats and the pointy-toe slipper for $49. Oxfords, available in gold and black-and-white, go for $69, as do loafers and flat sandals with an ankle cuff (the platform version is $99).
The D'Orsay pumps and platform pumps go for $79, while the IKO Platform sandal is $99. If you're looking to get a head start on your fall shoe collection, stiletto and wedge booties are $99 and tall boots are $149.
You'll also find a nice selection of bags, mostly in neutral colors, by the entrance. There's a black drawstring bag for $69, along with clutches and flap bags for the same price. All satchels and the Gabon hobo bag are $99. There's also a selection of small leather goods by the register going for $29, including fringed pouches and iPad cases.
Belts are at a table toward the front, and are available in cream, red, brown, and black. There are two styles: the wide belt is $59, and the zipper corset belt is $79.
The good news about this sale is that is wasn't too crowded when we stopped by, so you're likely to find your size (they're European sizes, so know your conversion) and a chair to sit in while you're trying different styles. Prices are also clearly marked on the wall above each product.
The bad news is that there isn't a huge selection of sizes, and the staff told us that there's nothing else to put out on the floor. This sale runs through Saturday evening.—Laura Gurfein
