The biggest designer resource in leather and fur is going public. Mitch Alfus—the self-appointed Leather King and owner of Libra Leathers—has opened a pop-up shop at 91 Grand Street in Soho. The man counts Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, and Alexander Wang among clients and did an excess of $50 million just in skins last year. "I live and breathe leather," Alfus told WWD. He personally owns 40 pairs of leather pants.
At the pop up, you'll be able to get your hands on a pair of leather pants yourself: his stretch-leather jeans are available for $495 to $695, which is considerably cheaper than most designer brands. A taste of what else to expect: leather poufs, python chairs, white kangaroo fur, exotic skin rugs, a bright-yellow dyed horse hide, and a $20,000 king sized coyote bedspread. Rest easy knowing that none of the animals in Alfus' stock were bred for their hides—most were raised for food—and check out the shop during its six week run, going on now.
