As you may or may not be aware, rapper Rick Ross is one of the celebrity faces for Reebok's Classics collection. However, a controversial lyric in a song he raps on, titled "U.O.E.N.O.," has drawn the attention of the anti-sexism activist organization UltraViolet, who organized a protest of the Reebok Fit Hub on Fifth Avenue. More than 40 protesters showed up Thursday with signs reading "Hey Reebok: Want my business? Stop promoting rape."
The offending lyric is: "Put Molly all in her Champagne, she ain't even know it. I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain't even know it." If you're not hip to street drugs du jour, Molly is a form of ecstasy that's shown up on quite a few recent rap and hip-hop tracks.
The goal of the protest was to deliver 72,000 consumer signatures in support of the athletic brand terminating Ross' endorsement over the lyric. Reebok security blocked the entrance to the protestors, saying they wouldn't be allowed in "because there are customers in the store."
