Last week's rumor that Urban Outfitters may be opening in Herald Square has been confirmed, according to the Commercial Observer. At over 61,000 square feet, the mammoth new location will span three floors at 3 Herald Square, which is also known as 1333 Broadway. That's a lot of plywood fixtures and string art window displays.
The store, Urban Outfitter's tenth in Manhattan, fills the void left by Conway. Dick's Sporting Goods had been in talks about renting part of the space, but wound up inking a deal for less square footage in Columbus Circle. The location is just spitting distance from the billion-dollars-a-year Macy's flagship and foot traffic that comes in at 15,000 pedestrians per hour during peak times. It will probably be your best bet for finding studded jean shorts and American flag crop tops near Penn Station.
