In retrospect, last Thursday was not an auspicious time for West Elm to launch its first West Elm Market in Dumbo. But when we stopped by today, the store was pristine, damage-free, and bustling. In fact, the hurricane might have been a boon for West Elm: how often does a brand get to debut a new concept shop during a week when most of its neighbors are stuck at home?
West Elm Market takes the furniture store's rustic modern aesthetic and applies it to housewares. There's an emphasis on crafting and nesting, with products ranging from sage-scented laundry detergent to beard oil to mod Italian refrigerators standing just under five feet tall. The merchandise isn't cheap, but it's all so insanely tasteful that it would make for perfect wedding gifts. In keeping with the homey vibe, the store has its own cafe with La Colombe coffee and a common area for workshops hosted by Skillshare.
